Wednesday was a busy day all the way around.
The girls were up simultaneously at the crack of snot, which is to say as I was walking out of the house at 5:45am. Also, the morning started early for the wife as she had to get ready for company.
See, the BIL and SIL are having hardwoods put in the BIL's office, the kitchen ones are getting re-done and the carpet in the family room and on the stairs is being replaced, so they can't be in the house.
Therefore, the family will spend a large majority of their not at school or work time at our house, starting yesterday at 8am.
There is also the issue of the dogs. Jake the garbage eating retard is going to stay with some friends and will have, in all likelihood, forgotten his owners and home about the time he gets out of sight of his driveway.
Sissy the octogenarian border collie with clinginess issues will be staying at our house during the transition, as it is widely believed that if she were kenneled or even put in a car, she would spontaneously combust or die.
The SIL and BIL and the youngest nephew intended to stay at the BIL's mom's house. We offered our guest room up, but they decided it would be easier over there.
The eldest nephew (Nick the easily distracted and always hungry) was to stay with us since making his 6:30am bus would be FAR easier from my house than 20 miles away.
However, that left us facing a food sourcing issue. I mean, I watched this kid (at over 200 pounds in 10th grade he's not built like most kids) eat four chik-fil-a sammiches and drink two cokes in about 12 seconds last night, and this was while he foraged thru pork loin and turkey tenderloin as well. He was also pissed that his mom would dare take the remaining three sammiches home for them to eat.
Anyway, Nick's a great kid (as I've said) and he's great with Lauren and he is even learning to be a bit curious about 2.0, asking questions about burping her and what not. I think he wants to hold her, but is afraid she's too fragile. I keep telling him that she's nearly 16 pounds at 4 months and that if he dropped her, she'd probably dent the floor, but I don't want to scare the boy. I'll need him to take out contracts for injury on the asshole teenagers that intend to date my daughters.
So, after we cooked the meat and stayed clear of Nick's food hole, Unk Todd pulled into the driveway...
IN HIS BRAND NEW 2006 RED CORVETTE!!
This has been his vehicular wet dream since he was a lad, but the new body style really got him excited and out of nowhere he up and pulled the trigger, and MAN, is that thing sweet.
Oh, and to his credit, he followed thru on his word in an email sent to ahem...OUR chevy dealer and he did not buy from the dealership 3 miles from his house. He instead drove 30 miles to get his dream car.
He actually knew (from the beginning) that the dealership he selected was one of hundreds owned by the same guy that owned the one that tried to fuck us over, but in his mind it was okay because he was not helping the sales team, sales manager or the bottom line of THAT dealer.
Thanks, UnkTodd.
Yesterday ended on a sad and nearly very sad note however. Unk Todd's grandfather, who has been hospitalized since Sunday after being found on the floor in his home, has taken a turn for the worse. So much so that the family "got the call" at about 5:30pm yesterday to go to the hospital.
He made it through the night which was a good thing. Roger is 88 years old. He is a good man who has always been kind to me and has always doted on my girls to the point of him shedding tears. He has always treated Molly and I (and our respective families) like family. He is a proud and kind man who did right by his family and especially the two grandsons of his that I know well. They both share a passion for the Lake, boating, fishing and spending time with the kids just like he instilled in both of them.
I can only wish Roger peace and comfort as his time draws near.
We lov love you Gran.
